The Island Voices

Singapore acapella group the island voices

Dubbed “the best singers on the island,” The Island Voices is more than just a vocal group; it encompasses soloists, songwriters, vocal coaches, music arrangers, producers, music engineers and instrumentalists – all united under exceptional leadership. Their diverse lineup includes bass, baritone, tenor, alto, mezzo-soprano, soprano, and vocal percussionists, and they continue to embrace an expanding array of musical styles.

In The Island Voices, every singer shines as both a lead and a supporting vocal, embodying their motto: "Stronger Together." When one takes the spotlight, the others harmoniously support, “Go ‘SHINE YOUR LIGHT!’ We’re right behind you as our BGS!” This philosophy sets them apart.

The group represents the essence of Singapore, as they showcased the nation’s musical spirit internationally at the Taiwan Choral Music Competition in October 2023. Their performance not only won them the Gold Medal for Second Prize but also earned accolades for the Best Vocal Percussionist, marking a remarkable achievement on a global stage. Band leader and founder Owen Li expressed pride in performing the nation's songs abroad, stating, “It was an honor.”

Reflecting on their journey, “We came to have fun and yet we won woo! woo...”. Traveling together has transformed their unique collective experience, as echoed by The Island Voices.

The ensemble further represented Singapore at Vokal.Total 2024, an esteemed international a cappella competition in Graz, Austria, from July 16 to 20. Competing against 19 nations, they achieved the Gold Medal for first runners-up, alongside a special award for Most Powerful Soloist in their category, showcasing their cultural heritage through Singaporean songs like "Singai Naadu" and the original composition "Fade Away" by member Narysal. Their unique approach to a cappella breathes new life into traditional vocal styles, creating mesmerizing performances that resonate with audiences.

Their latest victories affirm their unwavering commitment to artistic excellence. Standing out amidst top-tier international groups, The Island Voices has solidified its position as a leading act in the global a cappella community. Owen Li excitedly proclaimed, "We are extremely proud to represent Singapore on this scale in an a cappella context, and we eagerly anticipate future endeavors!"
